Subcommittees

The Niantic River Watershed Committee forms subcommittees as needed for specific purposes.

The Water Quality Subcommittee is a permanent subcommittee that maintains oversight of all water quality monitoring, summertime stream corridor assessments, and fall aquatic macroinvertebrate surveys. Meetings are generally held in April and October, an hour before the regular NRWC meeting held on the first Thursday of the month. See our Water Quality Monitoring page for more details about these activities.

The Education and Outreach Subcommittee promotes an understanding of the Niantic River watershed and actions that individuals can take to protect this valuable resource. This includes encouraging residents to do their part in protecting water quality, such as reducing lawn fertilizer and pollutants in stormwater runoff that flows to nearby waters. The Subcommittee leads our participation in public events such as EarthFest and Celebrate East Lyme Day. Members work with volunteers and committee partners to build awareness, share information, and engage audiences through hands-on activities using materials such as our EnviroScapeĀ® Models, also available for loan to educators. The Subcommittee also supports the bi-annual Niantic River Watershed Summit and our online presence. Please visit our Education/Outreach page.

Other subcommittees are created periodically for specific purposes, such as Financial Auditing, Website Development, and for any planned Watershed Summit meetings. If you have an interest in environmental education and outreach or water quality monitoring and would like to be a NRWC volunteer, please contact the NRWC Coordinator.
